Laws about Paintball

No one has gathered all the laws affecting paintball. It would be a tough,

long job, with the help of several attorneys involved at great expense, to

have this done. What is known as of the end of 2001:

TRANSPORTATION

1) It is best to carry a marker in a vehicle unloaded (no paint) and not

gassed up.

2) Always have a barrel bag or plug in the barrel during transport.

3) Transport the marker in a bag or case out of view, and if possible in

the trunk of a car or in an outer storage container of a truck.

4) Minors

do not sell or give a marker to a minor if that is against the

laws of the state. Not all states use the age of 18 as the dividing line

between minor and adult; some use a lower age.

5) Airline travel suggestions

Drain the tanks totally and do not fly with

full 12 grams, as that is against federal law. Remove the barrel. Remove

the tank from the marker if at all possible. Pack these items carefully in

a locking hard sided case. You might try calling the air line headquarters

ahead of time and ask about their policies regarding airguns. Do not try to

take markers or marker parts into the cabin with you; pack in cargo baggage

only. Paintball gear is sporting equipment. Markers are not firearms under

U.S. federal law.

6) When going outside the USA

and yes, that includes going to Canada: Do

your research and check the laws ahead of time. Check with the airlines for

their policies. Contact players or businesses in the country you are going

to visit and ask questions of them. Network with players who have traveled

to that country to find out what they ran into. Be very careful with your

marker and gear outside the US. Some countries are very strict on airguns

and may have laws that lead to confiscation and/or arrest. A couple of

countries ban paintball play.
